NASHVILLE, Tenn.–A Tennessee U.S. lawmaker has filed legislation calling for a supermajority vote any time a proposed bill would raise taxes.

U.S. Rep. Mark Green (R-TN) filed HJR47 in May, the bill calling for an amendment to the Constitution that would require a 3/5 supermajority to approve any legislation that raises taxes.

The amendment would state: “Any bill to levy a new tax or increase the rate or base of any tax may pass only by a three-fifths majority of the whole number of each House of Congress.”

In a statement release on the legislation, Rep. Green targets President Joe Biden and his proposed American Jobs Plan.
